I Wish I’d Done Things Differently

People often wish they had gone about things differently, or at least known more, before purchasing a property.

Sometimes it’s about money, sometimes it’s due diligence, or checking the property out properly.

There is no right or wrong way to do this but making sure you’re informed of what you’re doing can make a huge difference.

Before you apply for finance you should sit down and go through your budget. If you’re single, this is easy but if you’re a couple or family, this can be more complex as everyone has a different opinion on how much they are willing to sacrifice to buy a home.

You need to have a clear picture of how much you are willing to use as a deposit and the day to day running costs of a home. Sometimes it can be a better idea to purchase a tax deductible rental property and keep renting yourself. Either way, don’t commit to more than you can afford and remember, rates are low at the moment but they will go up and your income probably won’t go up at the same time.

An inspection by a professional Pest and Building company will save a lot of future heartache. Most houses are dressed up for sale these days so when you go to an open house or inspection, you’re viewing a property in the best possible light and it can look less appealing once the furniture is removed. An inspection is a small expense for peace of mind.

Check out the suburb. This may sound simplistic but checking the schools, playgrounds, shops, public transport and other amenities will allow you to settle somewhere that suits your lifestyle now and into the future.
